How to choose your fishing line
Match the line to your technique, target species and conditions:
- Braid (PE) — thin diameter, near-zero stretch and long casts for lure fishing, jigging and eging. Ideal where sensitivity and reach matter.
- Fluorocarbon — low visibility, abrasion resistance and a fast-sinking nature. Excellent as a leader over rough ground for wrasse and bass, or as a finesse mainline for clear-water trout and grayling.
- Monofilament — forgiving stretch and easy handling for surfcasting, float work for mullet and garfish, and general bottom fishing.
Consider breaking strain, diameter and water clarity together: lighter lines for finesse LRF and pressured fish, heavier braid and shock leaders for distance surfcasting and reef-edge sport.
