Fishbites E-Z Squid (Longer Lasting)

Fishbites E-Z Squid is a squid-scented bait strip that you cut to length with scissors. Squid is a staple UK sea bait for cod, bass, rays and conger, and this one needs no freezer.

In the pack

• 2 strips per pack, each 1/2 in (13 mm) wide and about 12 in (30 cm) long
• The Longer Lasting formula has a mesh running through the centre of each strip, so it stays on the hook when small fish and crabs pick at it. Fishbites rate its tear strength at 11, against 4 for their Fast Acting baits.

How to fish it

Use a strip on its own, tip a worm bait with it for a cocktail bait for cod and whiting, or add it as a trailer on a feather or jig.

Water temperature

Fishbites say the gel works in all water temperatures but gives off its scent best above 18°C (65°F). UK sea water is colder than that for most of the year, so the scent trail is slower in winter. A piece lasts about 15 to 45 minutes in the water; change it when only the mesh is left.

Storage

No bait fridge needed on the day. Keep the bag sealed and out of the sun. For storage over several weeks, Fishbites recommend keeping baits in the fridge.
