Fishbites E-Z Crab is a crab-scented bait strip that you cut to length with scissors. Peeler crab is a top bait for bass, cod and flounder, but it is seasonal and hard to keep. E-Z Crab gives you a crab scent that waits in your tackle bag.
In the pack
- 2 strips per pack, each 1/2 in (13 mm) wide and about 12 in (30 cm) long
- The Longer Lasting formula has a mesh running through the centre of each strip, so it stays on the hook when small fish and crabs pick at it. Fishbites rate its tear strength at 11, against 4 for their Fast Acting baits.
How to fish it
Fish a strip on a bare hook, add it as a tip to a worm or crab bait, or use it as a trailer on a jig. It suits bass, cod, flounder, wrasse and smoothhound from UK beaches, piers and estuaries.
Water temperature
Fishbites say the gel works in all water temperatures but gives off its scent best above 18°C (65°F). UK sea water is colder than that for most of the year, so the scent trail is slower in winter. A piece lasts about 15 to 45 minutes in the water; change it when only the mesh is left.
Storage
No bait fridge needed on the day. Keep the bag sealed and out of the sun. For storage over several weeks, Fishbites recommend keeping baits in the fridge.
