Fishbites Bag O' Worms Lugworm (Longer Lasting)

Fishbites Bag O' Worms Lugworm is a lugworm-scented artificial bait for beach and pier fishing. It comes as soft brown and orange ribbons that you thread on the hook like a fresh worm: no digging, no bait fridge and nothing to go off in your bag.

In the pack

• Regular: 1/4 in (6 mm) wide, about 12 in (30 cm) long, 3 ribbons per pack
• Large: 3/8 in (10 mm) wide, about 12 in (30 cm) long, 2 ribbons per pack
• The Longer Lasting formula has a mesh running through the centre of each strip, so it stays on the hook when small fish and crabs pick at it. Fishbites rate its tear strength at 11, against 4 for their Fast Acting baits.

How to fish it

Cut a length to suit your hook and thread it on as you would lugworm. It suits the usual UK beach targets for lug: cod and whiting in winter, dab, flounder and plaice, and bass in the surf. You can also tip a fresh worm bait with it to add scent and hold the bait together on a long cast.

Water temperature

Fishbites say the gel works in all water temperatures but gives off its scent best above 18°C (65°F). UK sea water is colder than that for most of the year, so the scent trail is slower in winter. A piece lasts about 15 to 45 minutes in the water; change it when only the mesh is left.

Storage

No bait fridge needed on the day. Keep the bag sealed and out of the sun. For storage over several weeks, Fishbites recommend keeping baits in the fridge.
